An unforgatable off-grid experience
We are looking for responsible, physically fit, social and self-reliant helpers who enjoy the simple life and the peace and tranquillity of the country side. We work all year round and usually have free spots available for those who wish to commit.
What's our focus on Monte Do Aniche ?
We are working to regenerate the depleted soil while protecting the existing cork oak trees and slowly reducing the eucalyptus forest.
Another big part is creating more infrastructures and improving existing ones, to ensure comfort for both human and animal.
90% of our consumption is vegan and we like to keep our shared kitchen vegan for you the 100% vegan souls.
What help do we need at the farm ?
We are usually happy to have support with:
- Clearing the eucalyptus forest in order to recover the soil and create space for other vegetation.
- Create more pastures for our horses (fencing).
- Plant local tree varieties.
- Making firewood for the winter
- Gardening - caring for our seasonal veggies and maintaining permaculture principles
- Building and maintaining different structures from local materials - stone, wood and mud
- Water management and water treatment
- The house, the animals and the kids
- Photography
- Carpentry
What's the schedule when working as a volunteer?
We work Monday to Friday, aprx. 25 hours per week.
We start together the latest by 9am, earlier if its hot and continue after lunch if required.
Sometimes someone needs to stay on the farm for the weekend to take care of the animals, water plants etc.
We have between 2 and 4 helpers most of the time, and some of the residents join the action on Monday and Thursday.
Families with kids have the option to combine renting and volunteering
What do we offer to our volunteers ?
We have SIMPLE, PRIVATE OR SHARED accommodation spread out all over the land, some are a short hike away from the Community Space and the Shower (up to 7 minutes).
They are basically bedrooms, with a compost toilet nearby (no running water) and some have electricity.
We have caravans for 1-4 people.
There is also a mobile house suited for families with kids.
For those with their own Van or tent, we have pitches in nice locations.
All your meals are included- we eat lunch together during the week, taking turns in preparing, while breakfast, dinner and weekends are free flow.
When travelling to or from us, we will pick you up and drop you off in either Sao Luis or Odemira if you schedule in advance.
You can also catch a ride during the week when we drive the kids to school or go shopping.
On the weekends you can join us when we go to the beach, markets and parties etc.
What are the facilities at Monte do Aniche ?
During your stay you can use of the commuity kitchen/ living room, WIFI, a shower with hot water and compost toilets.
Which activities are organized at the farm?
Sometimes we host gatherings, workshops or parties, which you can often attend for free or with a discount. And on Thursdays everybody on the land is invited to share their gifts, which can be anything from Thai Chi, Acro Yoga to Sound Journeys plus sauna sessions or Horse Workshops. We also sometimes get together on Fridays, making nice food and dance to music.
Arrival/Departure
- Minimum stay is THREE WEEKS- Arrival day MONDAY.

Please keep in mind that we are at least 15 minutes by car on a dirt track from any public road, there are no public transports services here and taxis will usually also not come to us.
